Where do you study?
In Saarbrücken, Germany
Member of other orchestras or institutions: Münchner Bachsolisten
What do you like to do when you are not playing music?
I love cooking for friends and enjoy hiking.
At what age did you start playing your instrument?
When I was 6 years old.
What was the most exciting concert you ever performed?
So many concerts are so exciting and great, each in its own way. First up is a concert from this June when I played Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1. Many dear friends and colleagues of mine played in the orchestra, maybe that’s why it was such a special concert. I am particularly looking forward to the Schubert String Quintet, which I will be able to play with Alina Pogostkina in the fall, with a meditation
beforehand. Initiating the Schubert from a place of meditation will definitely be very special.
What was the most awkward moment in your career?
I’ve never really had such an embarrassing moment. It usually works with a little humour :-).
What is your favourite piece of classical music?
That changes as quickly as my moods. I always like Schumann’s „Dichterliebe“ though, and the Bach Cello Suites, Mendelssohn’s „Elias“, Beethoven…
How did the last two Corona years influence your musical development?
I’m more concerned about what exactly I want to express and pass on with my music and also what I stand for as a musician. And I am particularly grateful for being able to practice this profession.
Which famous person would you like to have dinner with (from the past or the present)?
Pablo Casals, Paulo Coelho, Camille Pissarro
