Sinfonia Wallis

Sinfonia Valais-Wallis is a Valais-based orchestra that brings together between fifteen and sixty musicians, depending on the project. Since 2021, the orchestra has been an established part of the cultural scene in Valais and has presented its concert series throughout the canton, from Grengiols to Vouvry.

As an ensemble designed to continue growing over time, Sinfonia Valais-Wallis positions itself as a versatile organisation capable of meeting the needs of various cultural stakeholders in the region—both as a full symphony orchestra and in chamber music formations.

With a strong commitment to developing orchestral culture in Valais, the orchestra collaborates with several institutions and cultural actors in the canton, including Ouverture-Opéra, the choirs Novantiqua, Oracantat and Cantamabile, as well as the Sion Schola. It also takes part in various festivals such as “Les Ondes” in Monthey and the Grängjer Kulturtäg.

The musicians of Sinfonia Valais-Wallis are mostly based in the region: professional musicians who have settled in the canton, orchestral musicians active in other cities, graduates or students of the HEMU (Haute École de Musique), as well as teachers from the Conservatory or the Upper Valais General Music School (AMO). Valais has a sufficient number of highly qualified musicians to ensure the sustainability of this project and to offer artists professional opportunities in their home region.

The current momentum—strengthened by the canton’s new cultural policy as well as investments by numerous municipalities in competence centres and concert halls—confirms the original idea behind this project: Valais deserves a professional classical music structure fully integrated into its cultural landscape and serving its population.
