Thierry Lang

piano

Thierry Lang, a Swiss pianist and composer, was born in Romont, a small town in the canton of Fribourg.

He began studying the piano at the age of 5, and at 7 decided to make it his profession and his life. He continued his brilliant classical piano studies until the age of 21, while at the same time developing a passion for jazz.

It wasn’t until he was 15 that he heard for the first time the man who was to become and remain his mentor for a long time: Bill Evans. Indeed, in the pianist’s music he heard the perfect link between classical music and jazz. It was in this way that Thierry Lang found his means of musical expression.

A composer with a great sense of melody, he quickly established himself as one of the masters in the field.

Nourished by encounters, Thierry worked with many musicians, including Toots Thielemans, Paolo Fresu, Didier Lockwood and fellow Swiss trumpeter Matthieu Michel. Taken under the wing of Jim Beach (Queen’s manager), Thierry became the first Swiss musician to sign a contract with Blue Note, the legendary American jazz label. Since then, he has enjoyed a series of adventures that have blurred musical boundaries.
