Formed in 2005, Chiaroscuro Quartet performs music of the Classical and early Romantic periods on gut strings and with historical bows. The Quartet’s unique sound is highly acclaimed by audiences and critics all over Europe.
Recent releases for BIS include Beethoven’s Op.18, Mozart’s Prussian Quartets and Haydn’s Quartets Op.33 (1-3), with future plans featuring Beethoven’s Op. 74 and 130 and the second volume of Haydn’s Op.33.
Among the ensemble’s chamber music partners are Kristian Bezuidenhout, Trevor Pinnock, Jonathan Cohen, Christian Poltera and Cédric Tiberghien. Recent engagements include Vienna Konzerthaus, Philharmonie Warsaw, Edinburgh International Festival, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Auditorio Nacional de Música Madrid, The Sage Gateshead, Auditorium du Louvre Paris, Gulbenkian Foundation Lisbon, Boulez Saal and Beethoven Haus Bonn.
The 23/24 season sees them at Wigmore Hall & King’s Place London, Boulez Saal Berlin, Bozar Brussels, Mozarteum Salzburg and on tour to Japan. It also marks the culmination of their residency at Turner Sims Concert Hall.
